What is
the climate of Thailand?
Thailand’s weather
is influenced by monsoons overall the country that creates
3 seasons in the north and central areas and 2 in the south.
Generally, the climate is humid tropical with seasonal rain
and warm climate. April is the hottest month in summer. In
general, from mid- May to September, it is cloudy and rainy
from the southwest monsoon. From November to mid- March, the
climate is dry and cold from the cool northeast monsoon.
Seasonally, hot season
starts in late February until beginning May, with April as
the hottest month; rainy season starts from late May to late
October; and winter starts from late October to late January,
where December is the celebrated month for Christmas Eve and
to welcome New Year. |

Weather
in different parts of Thailand.
- Northern Thailand
In northern Thailand, the weather is generally very cold in
winter, yet also very hot in summer. The sky gets lot of sunshine.
Northern temperatures generally are between 3 to 5 degree
Celsius, lower than the rest of the country. Traveling to
the north in winter is very pleasant and needs suitable clothing
or sweater with you.
- Cool- From October to February
- Hot- From March to April
- Rainy- From May to September
(The rainy season is the best time for rafting and river activities.)
- Central Thailand
As central Thailand covers a wide land area, the climate varies
across this expanse. It is not very cool, rather hotter than
it is in the north in hot season. Humidity levels remain quite
high throughout the year. In rainy season, most rain tends
to fall between August and September and you usually see flooding
at the end of rain period in Bangkok.
- Cool- From November to February
- Hot- From March to May
- Rainy- From June to October
(The best time to visit is in cool season when temperatures
are high and humidity is relatively low.)
- Southern Thailand
The climate of southern Thailand is influenced by monsoon
winds and remains warm and humid throughout the year. Therefore,
southern Thailand has 2 seasons. On the east and west coasts,
differences in temperature and rainfall occur during both
seasons. In rainy season, torrential rain tends to fall in
short bursts for around 2 or 3 hours a day. Most rain falls
between June and November. And from November to January, there
is a relatively high rainfall. In hot season, the weather
is dry and rain- free between January and April. April and
May are the hottest months. During hot and dry season is the
best time to visit southern Thailand, as cool sea breezes
ease the high temperatures and humidity.
