‘My First Time with the 6th Sense Culture : The Evason (near) Hua Hin’ When I passed by the ‘Far From Worry Palace’, I knew immediately I was in Hua Hin – literately translated as ‘Head Stone’ in Thai words. Though it was dark then, my first thought was sunshine, seaside and sea food. Water sports [e.g. ‘banana boat’, jet ski, etc.] or golfing would be good in the morning. But within minutes when we went through Hua Hin, my first reaction is what a scandal which my wife and I were in by deciding to stay at the less than one year old Evason Hotel located in Pranburi rather than Hua Hin. We were captive; we were trapped. We were in the middle of nowhere when my van took turned into the lonely road driven for another 8 kilometers from the main road. Putting on a brave face, I told my wife that looking in the bright side, we were in a most exclusive resort. When we traveled about 30 kilometers from the downtown Hua Hin, friendly receptionists greeted us with real and famous Thai smiles along with their welcome drinks and hot towers. The resort room that we stayed was stunning as well as comfortable with smart mixture between Thai culture/art and modern facilities. Being in the nature should be anyone’s feeling in this room of this low rise lodge. The bedroom was spacious with the bed hanging with ‘curtain waves’ on its four corners. I particularly liked the in-house satellite TV which enabled me to watch my favorites channels [e.g. BBC, Star Sport, ESPN, RAI International, etc.]. After a good night rest, we got up early in that Sunday morning. My wife decided to spend her private moment in Spa, while my two sons and I went to the swimming pool located next to the seaside. On the morning, the wooden black and cute little board displayed unusual high temperature range between 25 to 30 C, sunny, mild humid with small jelly fish warning in the sea. Chanting with classical Thai music in the morning during breakfast was very impressive and definitely my first. My sons found their first surprise of the day – an hour complementary bicycle. They biked around the seaside walkway, while I found myself lying in the shade and slowly sipping my own drinking water. What I forgot were to bring along was a thick book and fresh basket of fruits. Since the hotel was far away from any golf courses, I was struck with the irregular shaped and beautiful setting two swimming pools – one for the kid and one for the adult. I planed to rest there until noon and I decided to kill time with my sons’ book, ‘Harry Potter II’. Being young as my teenage sons are, they had found a new ‘Just Kid’ corner and new companions. The room was filled with playground, TV, toys, artistic facilities and others. Two nannies were also present to reassure your kid need. Perhaps, my sons are ‘too old’ for these toys, they took the offer of a tennis game and equipment as another complement from the hotel. The Evason was definitely a friendly place for young family with full nest like us. Good time had gone by quickly as always. In that afternoon, we decide to leave Evason early. Visiting the Cha Am beach and having good and inexpensive seafood were among our agenda before heading for my home in Bangkok. Yet, my mind kept wishing about the Evason. ‘No Tourist Invasion, Please.’ Pongsak Hoontrakul, DBA CEO of A2ZeBusiness.com Bangkok, on December 11, 02. |
