Day 1 CHIANG MAI -
LISU LODGE (L, D)
Join a morning transfer on a local “songtaew” truck to the mountain
temple of Wat Prathat Doi Suthep, the most famous landmark of Chiang
Mai. Its exquisite golden pagoda with 6 kg of pure gold at its peak
and the rest plated with gold shines high over the city. The sound
of temple bells fills the air, and the view down over the city makes
an irresistible photo opportunity. Afterwards drive up the mountain,
passing the King’s winter palace of Phuping and turn onto a rough
dirt road to the Chiang Khien Coffee Research Project where you
can enjoy a cup of the local ‘arabica’ surrounded by fabulous gardens
of flowers. Continue to the white Hmong village of Chiang Khien
where the 800 inhabitants still retain their traditional hill tribe
clothes and culture that dates back 500 years. The modern city of
Chiang Mai can be viewed down below 10 km away. Upon arrival enjoy
a quick cup of steaming mountain tea with a village family and then
take an hour and 15 min. drive down a mountain ridge to visit an
Orchid Farm. From there it’s just a 30 min. drive to the Lisu Lodge.
Enjoy a relaxing ox-cart ride through fields, orchards and teak
plantations before you start on a village tour guided by one of
the family heads to see a bit of Lisu customs and culture. Dinner

Day 2 LISU LODGE

After breakfast, set off for a biking tour (13 km, mainly down hill)
to the Mae Taeng Elephant Camp. From there enjoy one-hour elephant
ride through the beautiful mountains and jungle to the river. Enjoy
a hearty picnic lunch by the river at the elephant camp. Afterwards
embark on an inflatable rubber boat for an exciting 45 minutes white
water rafting on the Mae Taeng River. After this exciting adventure
take a short drive to visit an Akha Village. Then it’s your choice;
either cycle back to the Lisu Lodge or use the transfer by a “songthaew”
(30 minutes drive). Upon arrival enjoy the refreshments at the lodge
and the free time to enjoy Lisu activities such as embroidering
and organic gardening. Dinner and overnight at the Lisu Lodge.
Day 3 LISU LODGE
- CHIANG MAI (B, L)
After breakfast, depart by local truck from the Lisu Lodge to the
Pong Duad Hot Spring. Upon arrival enjoy walking around the beautiful
National Park and take the opportunity for an energizing bath in
hot mineral water. Continue on road to the Mork Fah Waterfall and
stop en-route to visit the Karen tribe in Ban Huai Phra Chao. Enjoy
a picnic lunch by the large natural pool at the waterfall. Afterwards,
swim in the pool or go for a stroll in the narrow valley of lush
tropical plants. Then transfer to Chiang Mai. Car and guide will
be at your disposal until 5 p.m.

Itinerary
Day 1 CHIANG MAI -
LAHU VILLAGE (L, D)
Pick up from the hotel in Chiang Mai by a “songthaew” (a local taxi)
and 1.5 hours drive to the area of Pha Mieng. Walk through orchards
and down a steep jungle path to the waterfall and pool of Pha Mieng.
Enjoy a nice swim in a large pool. Then, walk around 15 minutes
to the Lahu village and continue along jungle trails to the remote
village of Hmong Pha Mieng (1.5 hrs) to meet the inhabitants of
this small hill tribe in a jungle. Picnic lunch is served under
the trees. In the afternoon, walk to the top of the mountain (1.5
hrs) where the Red Lahu Village of Pha Daeng is located. Enjoy a
cup of Chinese tea with a village family and then walk along a mountain
ridge to the Lahu village of Kup Kap (1 hr). The view from this
village is spectacular when looking southward to the valley below
or westward to the mountain peaks stretching towards Burma. Experience
the friendly attention of the curious Lahu villagers. Dinner and
overnight at the Lahu Outpost.
Day 2 LAHU VILLAGE
– LISU LODGE (B, L, D)
After breakfast at Lahu Outpost, walk for 1 hour downhill to Huay
Satern Waterfall. Then one-hour walk along the stream and nature
trail to Mae Taeng Elephant Camp where you set off for a one hour
elephant ride. A picnic lunch will be served by the river. After
lunch, enjoy white water rafting down the river for 45 min (grade
1 to 2) to the pretty Thai village of Muang Gurt. Then take a short
drive by local truck to the Akha village of Huay Pong where a cup
of tea will be served while having a chat with the Shaman (witch
doctor). Afterwards continue downhill (mainly) for another 30 minutes
to the award winning Lisu Lodge. Arrive at Lisu Lodge in the late
afternoon and observe hill tribe activities of Lisu people such
as embroidering and organic gardening. A welcome drink, tea or coffee
will be provided at the lodge. In the evening, enjoy dinner with
Lisu music and dance by Lisu banjo players and village children.
Overnight at the Lisu Lodge.
Day 3 LISU LODGE
– LANNA FARM (B, L, D)
Enjoy breakfast at the Lodge and take a cultural tour of the village
by one of the Lisu elders with the translation of your guide. See
the shrine, which guards the village spirit and other aspects of
Lisu culture. Then take a 1.5 hr oxcart ride through the farmland
and forest to the large country village of Baan Pang Mae Daeng.
Return for lunch to the Lisu Lodge.In the afternoon, visit a simple
Palong village before you set off for 2-hour trek from a Karen to
a Lahu village. From there continue by local truck on road to the
Lanna Farm. In the farm you can enjoy your choice of activities
such as fruit and vegetable carving or take a short Thai cooking
lesson. Dinner and overnight at Lanna Farm.
Day 4 LANNA FARM
– CHIANG MAI (B, L)
After breakfast at the Lanna Farm, explore the beautiful rural countryside
on an easy biking tour and see the abundant agriculture products
such as rice, corn, chili, peanut, soybean, potato, etc with an
enjoyable conversation to the farmers. Visit the huge reclining
Buddha image at Wat Tham Dork Kum before you return to the Lanna
Farm for lunch. After lunch, transfer back to Chiang Mai.
